Community Firewood Program

The Community Firewood Program offers seasoned firewood Oakridge and surrounding communities. Our primary goal is to improve air quality through burning dry wood. This helps our community meet air attainment goals.

Why is it important?

Woodsmoke in the winter contributes to poor air quality. This impacts our health and economic development. Our area is prone to wintertime inversions, low wind speeds and poor atmospheric dispersion.

Community Health:

Woodsmoke contains toxic gases and pollutants. This increases cancer risk and other significant community health issues, such as asthma and heart problems.

Economic Development:

Oakridge has been out of attainment with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) standards until recently. Being out of attainment affects the potential for new businesses to move or start operations in Oakridge. It can also affect federal funding, which limits economic development options.
